1. What do you do?
I am a young designer who recently began an apprenticeship at Zap after completing college. I am particularly passionate about branding and web design, and I’m excited to continue learning and developing my skills at Zap. I look forward to challenging myself with new design concepts and growing as a designer!
2. What’s your career highlight so far?
My biggest highlight has definitely been joining Zap after being offered an apprenticeship last year. Other highlights include contributing to the Turner Sims rebrand at Zap and designing event posters for a local company run by a family friend.
3. Which brand excites you the most at the moment? (Doesn’t have to be one of ours!)
Recently, Wolff Olins completed a rebrand for Lloyds Bank that truly did the brand justice. It retained its heritage feel while adapting to appeal to a more modern audience. I absolutely love the custom typeface and the subtle detail they introduced by having the horse logo face forward (toward the future) instead of backward (toward the past). This change was simple yet incredibly effective.
4. Who’s your favourite graphic artist?
Since college, I have admired the work of Olly Moss, a graphic designer who specializes in creating illustrative posters for various movies. His style inspired several of my college projects, and I recently designed a poster for an event that draws from his techniques.
5. What attracted you to Zap?
What attracted me to Zap was how friendly and welcoming everyone is, as well as the wide variety of design work they do from animation and web design to branding and packaging, allowing me to develop my skills across numerous fields.
6. Last film you watched?
From what I remember, probably Nosferatu. I’m a big fan of horror films, but Nosferatu wasn’t exactly my style. While it featured amazing cinematography and acting, I found it a bit slow-paced with several strange and questionable sexual moments.
7. What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is probably Dungeons and Dragons. Some people might find it too nerdy or strange, but I think it’s the perfect game to play with friends. I haven’t played in years, but it definitely comes with plenty of hilarious moments.
8. Most embarrassing moment?
My most embarrassing moment was while working at a fancy hotel before joining Zap. As I poured champagne for a guest, another started grabbing bread from my tray, throwing off my concentration and causing me to spill champagne on the woman. I went bright red and apologized profusely, though deep down, I knew whose fault it was.
9. If you could choose any superpower…
I would have said teleportation; however, it seems to be a popular choice at Zap. So instead, I’m going to say super speed. I used to enjoy running, and super speed is basically teleportation but looks a lot cooler.
10. What are you looking forward to most this year?
I am definitely looking forward to enhancing my graphic design and creative skills at Zap and hopefully creating some new career highlights this year.
