Turner Sims is a respected and well established music venue with acoustics that are second to none in the region. They had ambitious goals to reach broader and more diverse audiences, and to create
 a diverse and inclusive community through the power of live music.

The Challenge

Turner Sims believe that the joy of music is for everyone, and were keen to broaden their offering by introducing new younger audiences to their music programmes, while also introducing youthful and diverse genres to the venue. However, their existing identity felt corporate, outdated, and lacking in emotion. In short, it was visually at odds with who they were, and was not resonating with their new audiences. We were tasked with helping to define their true 
essence, and to bring the joy and diversity of their live music to life through a vibrant and engaging visual identity.

The Solution

We developed a brand that celebrated the eclectic nature of both the audience attending Turner Sims and the diverse range of music echoed within. This included the creation of a unique, responsive logotype and a suite of repeating patterns inspired by the shapes of musical instruments. The logo uses a vibrato line representing the ever-changing pitches in music, and symbolises the diverse sounds that fill the venue. We also crafted a vibrant and joyful colour palette, alongside a compelling value proposition that truly reflected their identity – ALL for the joy of music.

Zap have been brilliant. They got to the heart of what makes Turner Sims a special music venue and vibrant part of the university. Our refreshed visual identity is bold, colourful and friendly. It celebrates our eclectic programme and the joy music brings to people’s lives. Zap have created assets that are flexible and fun to use. Students and young people have praised our fresh new look, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
